Let us inform you about the recent changes and new services available within the MetaCentrum and CERIT-SC infrastructures.

1. Further nodes available in the PBSPro experimental environment

PBSPro environment has been extended recently. Clusters  ajax, exmag, luna, meduseld, mudrc, tarkil, gram (GPU) are available there now.
In future, we plan to replace whole current old Torque scheduling system with new PBS Professional, so we highly recommend you to start to use the PBSPro.


Please note:

  • PBSPro server: arien-pro.ics.muni.cz (server is not directly accessible)
  • Dedicated frontend: tarkil.grid.cesnet.cz
  • GPU cluster is accessible via dedicated gpu@arien-pro.ics.muni.cz queue
  • PBS Pro comes with new qsub syntax "select" which differs in major aspects from old Torque syntax -- request for job with two processors on each of 3 chunks (nodes), 1 GB of RAM, 1 GB of local scratch, 1 hour walltime, 1 licence for Matlab: 
    •   qsub -l select=3:ncpus=2:mem=1gb:scratch_local=1gb -l walltime=1:00:00 -l matlab=1 skript.sh

  • Scratch requirement must be stated individually. When requesting scratch, it is necessary to specify its type. There is no default type of scratch! (scratch_local=1gb)!!!

  • Qsub assembler for PBSPro and other information from PBSPro were integrated to PBSMon: https://metavo.metacentrum.cz/en/state/personal

2. Agregated data for @arien, @arien-pro, and @wagap environments in PBSMon application

All relevant information abot users and jobs in all environments were integrated in PBSMon application. PBSMon is a part of MetaCentrum web pages: https://metavo.metacentrum.cz/cs/state/index.html


3. Upgrade to Debian8 (frontend + nodes)

All frontends and nodes were upgraded to Debian 8 OS.

4. RepeatExplorer Galaxy available for ELIXIR

We operate a new Galaxy instance with RepeatExplorer dedicated to the ELIXIR project: https://galaxy-elixir.cerit-sc.cz

5. Meetings with users in FZU AV ČR

Meetings with users of clusters hosted in Institute of Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences (Luna, Exmag, Kalpa, Goliáš) will take place on Thursday, February 23 (from 10:30 AM) in the building of FZU -- at the Pod Vodárenskou věží street. The aim of the meeting is to introduce new hardware and changes in job scheduling.
 

6. SW Upgrades

The number of Ansys HPC licences was incerased from 60pcs to 512pcs (=cpu cores). ANSYS High-Performance Computing (HPC) is a supplement for computation-intensive tasks within a multiprocessor/multiple node environment (each license allows you to extend the calculation to a next available processor).
 
Comercial SW upgrades:  Ansys CFD (ver. 18.0), Wolfram Mathematica + gridMathematica (ver. 11.0), Intel compilers (ver. 2017 Update 1) and PGI complilers (ver. 16.10). 


7. Increase your fairshare for acknowledgement in your publications

According to usage rules, each user of MetaCentrum is obliged to add an acknowlegement in his publications created with the support of MetaCentrum: https://metavo.metacentrum.cz/en/application/index.html

Publications with acknowledgement to CESNET or/and CERIT-SC are inserted into Perun system's user section through graphical interface. Please do not forget to enter your publications to our system, you will get a privileged access to all resources of MetaCentrum or CERIT/SC centre as a bonus: https://metavo.metacentrum.cz/en/myaccount/pubs
